Presented by Anne Van Zelst, MA, CCC-SLP
(ASHA CEUs are available for this educational event)
“Reading is Fundamental” in the treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech! So when working with children with CAS, as speech-language pathologists and families, how can we ensure that literacy skill development is an integral and consistent aspect of speech and language treatment?
As the child with CAS progresses along the continua of age and severity, aspects of literacy skill development should be fundamentally incorporated into CAS treatment.
This webinar will review the current research regarding CAS and the development of literacy skills. The focus of this webinar will be on integration of literacy skills into the treatment of school-age children with CAS. Treatment techniques that merge literacy skills while maintaining fidelity to the principles of motor-learning theory will be explored. Characteristics of formal reading programs that support CAS treatment and/or hinder the treatment of CAS will be discussed. Through case studies and video examples, learners will be provided with practical strategies that they can easily incorporate into their therapy sessions. Examples of treatment goals that combine literacy development and treatment of CAS will be provided.
