Describe treatment approach used: Frequent sessions and many trials is my main approach to treatment. After assessment, I would generate a small number of targets (typically 5) that are functional and child specific. I generate target lists based on the child's current sound and syllable shape repertoire, using mastered syllable shapes with novel sounds and novel syllable shapes with mastered sounds. I would incorporate these targets into the DTTC approach. In direct imitation of the clinician, if the production is imprecise attempting in simultaneous production and adding slowed rate and tactile cues as necessary, and if the production is correct practicing in imitation and then with varied rate and prosody. I would try for at least 20 trials per target within a 30 minute session, though this is variable for child/ day of therapy.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: I encourage parents to observe my treatment session from an observation room. We discuss specific target words and once the children are near mastery I provide the words for home practice. Parents have been receptive to learning tactile cues and completing drill work at home. Apraxia is often a confusing and scary diagnosis and I find that parents continue to have questions throughout the therapy process, I am always open to conversations and willing to help and provide any information I can.

Describe your past and current involvement in the Apraxia community? I attended the National Conference on Childhood Apraxia of Speech last year. The information at the conference was incredible, as was the ability to meet and speak with parents and caregivers of children with apraxia. This is the most I've really been introduced into the 'Apraxia community,' though following the conference have been eager to get more involved. I think this registry is another nice way to get into the community.
