My practice is family driven and I encourage all families to observe and participate in therapy. I use the principles of Motor Learning and incorporate that into a play based approach tailored to the unique needs of each individual child.
During my tenure as an SLP, much of my time has been focused on working with families in early intervention and preschool. As a result, I am often one of the first professionals to talk with the family about CAS. I have had the opportunity to work with many families who are just beginning to learn about CAS. I help the family begin the process by connecting them with other local families and connecting them with various resources including books, websites and the Apraxia Kids Conference. In 2021 I completed the Apraxia Kids Boot Camp, which opened my world to many more opportunities within the Apraxia Community in the future!
I look to parents as the expert on their child. They are a huge part of the assessment and therapy process. I encourage parents to play an active role in therapy. Parents are able to contact me via email or phone at any time to discuss their concerns.
I have been fortunate to work with local SLPs who are knowledgeable in the area of AAC. I refer to them when appropriate and help to carryout their recommendations and guide the family. I have training with low tech communication such as PECS and have used and programmed many high tech devices. When needed, I am able to provide families with AAC supports at home and school.
