Apraxia-KIDSSM at the 2004 ASHA Convention

For the fifth year, the interests of children with apraxia of speech were represented at the Annual Convention of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA). This year, CASANA and The Hendrix Foundation, found themselves in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where the Apraxia-KidsSM booth was part of the large exhibit hall with hundreds of other booths.

Just as in previous years, board members, advisory board members, staff and volunteers handed out thousands of pieces of print literature on apraxia topics as well as displayed the accomplishments and successes of Apraxia-KidsSM resources. It was an exceptional year and our organizations thank all who participated by either helping or stopping by to share with us your success and struggles in meeting the needs of children with apraxia.

Additionally, a great time was had by all at the Annual Apraxia-KidsSM Reception at ASHA. This is a time to gather with our professional and research supporters and celebrate the successes and strides made throughout the year helping children with apraxia. We were delighted to host many members of our distinguished Professional Advisory Board, other special guests from across the world who are dedicated to researching answers about apraxia in children, and our local parent volunteers. A special thanks to the following individuals who assisted in the booth: Kathy Bauer and Mary Sturm (CASANA), Carol Myers (The Hendrix Foundation), Parent volunteers Lia Gorman, Wendy Brooks, Cheryl Rifon, Charlie Rifon, Helene Tuefel and Margaret Hannon; and Professional Advisory Board Members Dr. Kathy Jakielski, Dr. Rebecca McCauley, Dr. Amy Meredith, and Dr. Donald Robin. Finally, we owe a great deal of appreciation to The Slater Family for their donation of all the printing for the convention handouts.
