CASANA ANNOUNCES FIRST FILM ABOUT CHILDHOOD APRAXIA

The Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association (CASANA) is both proud and excited to announce the premiere of a new film on childhood apraxia of speech.
Entitled "Hope Speaks: An Introduction to Childhood Apraxia of Speech," this 1/2 hour documentary is both educational and inspirational, and is designed as an introduction to parents of children who have recently been diagnosed with apraxia, as well as to students in communication sciences and disorders and new SLP's alike. "Hope Speaks" will also be a shining light to anyone who loves a child with apraxia and is sharing their journey. The premiere for "Hope Speaks" is set for Saturday, June 11, 2005 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
"Hope Speaks" focuses on the lives of several children diagnosed with apraxia as very young toddlers. Viewers will see and hear their parents discuss vivid memories of what it was like to get a diagnosis of apraxia for their child. An overview of speech therapy and related issues are presented. you will hear the children as teenagers and young adolescents talk about what it was like to grow up with apraxia and how the disorder affects their lives today. Their parents will also share how they went from being very frightened of the diagnosis to becoming their child's advocate.
Professionals and researchers in "Hope Speaks" provide a basic overview of important speech therapy approaches and tips on how to help children make the best use of speech therapy. This film presents what the professionals truly know about apraxia and the range of possible outcomes for children with this diagnosis. No other such film exists that has been specially designed for the parents of newly diagnosed children with CAS.
The DVD are available for sale on the Apraxia-KIDSSM website. Parents and SLP's attending the Regional Parent Conference in Philadelphia this summer will be able to pick up a DVD and save on shipping and handling.
