Incorporating principles of motor learning within high energy, playful, often-humor based, multi-sensory therapy activities.
Trained and employed through Boston Children’s Hospital through 2020, Mike has developed an expertise in thinking about particularly difficult-to-understand speech. He was selected in the inaugural Bootcamp provided through Apraxia-Kids, and he is recognized by that organization for Advanced Training and Clinical Expertise in Childhood Apraxia of Speech. He has received intensive training and subsequent in-depth experience working with a variety of complex speech and language disorders. Mike enjoys helping children and their families navigate the murky and often stormy waters of diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and progress monitoring.
Parents are encouraged to carry over daily practice of functional, nearly mastered productions. Parents help to establish functional/motivating words for practice within treatment sessions.
I often rely on visual symbols / sentence strips to reduce language demands and allow for resources to be allocated to speech production. I also use these supports for language building activities. I am often using manual signs (or approximate).
