YOUR HELP CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Talking. It seems so easy. Our brain thinks of something, our thoughts reach our mouth and our words come out. Now, imagine a world where you could not speak. Where your brain knows exactly what it wants to say, but your mouth just won’t cooperate. This is the world that my daughter lives in daily.
Hello. My name is Brenae Solis and my husband’s name is Michael. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our courageous, little girl Emily. Emily, now almost three years of age, was diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech at the age of eighteen months. Apraxia of Speech is a neurological disorder that severely limits a person’s ability to speak due to “poor motor planning.” The brain and mouth are not capable of “synchronizing” their information to form the sequences of speech movements that become what we know as words. When Emily was first diagnosed, we were so confused. What was this disorder? What does this mean for Emily? How did this happen? How can we fix it? Fortunately, through extensive therapy Emily continues to make slow, but sure progress and her language is flourishing. I’m so proud of her and the accomplishments that our family has achieved together.
Research and awareness for Apraxia are both very limited. This is why I have committed myself to an organization known as CASANA, Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America, to host the very first Florida Walk for Children with Apraxia to benefit CASANA's programs and research. This walk to me means a day of honor for all of these special children and their families and with your contributions you will make a profound difference in their lives.
Every child that struggles with Apraxia of Speech deserves their day of recognition and with your help we can make the very first Florida Walk for Children with Apraxia happen. With your help we can raise money for Apraxia research, promote Apraxia awareness and give each one of these children their own special voice.
