1st IDAHO WALK FOR APRAXIA!
Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a neurologically based motor-speech disorder. Apraxia causes children to have difficulty making sounds, syllables, and words. The brain knows what the child wants to say, but there is a problem getting the signals needed to move the child’s lips, jaw, and tongue in order to produce speech. Children with apraxia of speech require frequent and intensive speech therapy designed to improve the planning, sequencing, and coordination of movements for speech.
FROM THE WALK COORDINATOR:
"My husband and I have a daughter with Apraxia. Anikia was diagnosed shortly after she turned 3 and now she is 4 1/2. She has been in speech since she was 18 months old and was making little progress, but with countless hours of speech therapy and the correct diagnosis she has improved so much. We still have a long way to go before people fully understand her so, we wanted to give back to this organization, help families who are struggling. And to make people aware of what Apraxia is, since it isn't well known especially around here in the Boise/Horseshoe Bend area."
Register by July 30, 2010 in order to be guaranteed a 2010 Walk for Apraxia T-shirt in your size at Walk Day Check In! (If you register after this date, shirts are available on a first come, first serve basis until gone)
