2010 Connecticut Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech
Benefitting Programs and Research for Apraxia
Sunday, May 23, 2010
Osbornedale State Park
Derby, CT 06418
Meet at Pavilion by Picketts Pond (Chatfield St. Entrance)
Registration starts at 9 AM; Walk begins promptly at 10 AM
Imagine being told your child would likely never speak or having a child or relative that could not communicate their basic needs to you. Unfortunately for many children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) this is not a “what if” situation, but rather a reality. CAS is a serious neurological based speech disorder that requires frequent intense therapy for many years.
Thanks to CASANA many families receive the education and support they need during their child’s apraxia journey. CASANA is the only nation-wide, non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, education, and research in CAS.
In Connecticut alone, we have over 90 families impacted by CAS, and growing. In 2009 the Apraxia Resource Center of Connecticut (ARCC) was formed to help bring these families together for support, education and networking opportunities. ARCC would like to thank and recognize CASANA for being their source of inspiration and instrumental in helping so many families and professionals gain the knowledge in apraxia needed to move children with CAS to develop meaningful speech.
Please join ARCC in supporting CASANA by participating as a walker, sponsoring a walker, or just making a donation. All proceeds benefit CASANA and ARCC programs and research. The walk is open to adults and children.
Register to walk on-line by May 2nd to receive your Apraxia Walk T-Shirt!
Two contest opportunities: The family that raises the most money and the family with the most amount of walkers on their team will each win one free admission ticket to the Connecticut apraxia conference on October 22, 2010 in North Haven, CT.
