This is Zach; he is 3 years old and has Apraxia of speech. He is just one of the thousands.
When you look at him you see nothing different then all the other kids playing in the park. The only difference between him and the other children is that he can't say to me "swing, Mommy"
He suffers on a daily basis with words and sounds. One day he can get a sound or a word out and others he doesn't make a peep. He may say a word once and never say it again for weeks or months.
As Zach is getting older the Apraxia is causing more and more problems in his daily life...he is now able to say more words but he can not articulate many of those words properly.
Zach has now been diagnosed with more issues on top of his Apraxia and because there is not enough knowledge/studies of Apraxia we don't know if the articulation, selective mutism, and VPD (velopharyngeal dysfunction) just happens to go along with Apraxia or if it something different all together. With your help we may be able to learn how to help my son and others like him and we may be able to find if this causes other disorders as well.
Please help me by getting the word out there on Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
Zach is just one of the thousands of children who are misunderstood by so many individuals.
There is no cure. There is no reason why some children suffer with this.
