Getting Them Ready: Preparing youth with childhood apraxia of speech for life after school

This event is on November 27, 2012 10:08am

About this Event

Does it seem too early to think about what will happen when a child  graduates from high school?  It’s not!  Parents and professionals are encouraged to begin early in thinking about transition for youth with  CAS and other speech/language disabilities.  While age 14 is suggested as the “formal” time to begin transition planning, those concerned with middle school students will also benefit from  exploring this topic. This session will describe the current education law regarding post-school transition for youth with  disabilities.  Discussion of transition related outcomes of higher  education, employment, and community/independent living will be  reviewed.  Specific suggestions and tips will be provided for how to prepare young people with speech/language disabilities for life after high school.
